I consider myself a fairly creative person.  My brain is full of unrealized ideas & random things every moment of the day.  Most of the time I know exactly what I want to blog about.   When it came time to post today, I realized I have nothing ready!  There are more projects waiting to be finished in my work space than I care to mention.  I also have notebooks & sketch books full of more ideas.  What I don’t always have is time!  So, today, I’m going to tell y’all a little about how I overcome mental blocks & where I look for inspiration.  This is what I do when I’m searching for ideas!

Searching the Internet

When I was younger, I had to go to the library and hope they had a book on whatever I wanted to know about.  Being that the town I live in is rather small, they didn’t always have what I was looking for.  Now we have the internet!  For a person like me, who is always looking for new ideas & information, this is a goldmine.  Of course, you have to know how to find what you’re looking for.  In some cases I have to type in my request in several different ways before I find what I’m looking for.

My top place to look for inspiration would have to be Pinterest.  You can type in general categories, like DIY, or get more specific, like DIY furniture.  The best thing about it is you can save all the great ideas & inspiration you find on the internet in one place!  I used to get all kinds of magazines & I would cut out everything I wanted to keep.  It would all get filed away for me to look through later.  I still do that sometimes, but Pinterest is so much easier!  My boards are in alphabetical order except the top row.  That’s where I keep my blog board & current interests.  There is a limit to what you can save but it’s so large I find it hard to believe someone could fill it up!

No matter what you’re looking for, you can usually find some information about it on the internet.  That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t visit the library!  There’s still great things to be found there that are not on the internet!  Plus – book smell!  : )

Exploring

Sometimes I stumble upon my best ideas when I’m not looking for them!  This happens the most when I’m out and about looking for thrifty finds.  I’m usually looking for something in particular when I go out thrifting, but something else I didn’t know I “needed” tends to find me.  : )  I love going to thrift stores & yardsales about once a month just for inspiration.

I try to stay away from craft stores unless I actually need something.  When I go in those I get a little carried away & get a little overly inspired.  ; )  Besides, my work space probably has what I need!

All I need to get inspired sometimes is to walk into my work space.  I’ve got most things out where I can see them.  This means I spend less time looking for what I need and more time creating.

Nature

What could be more inspiring than nature?  There is so much to see!  Taking a walk outside and digging in the dirt clears my head & helps me focus my thoughts.  Remember me talking about all the ideas running around in my head?  Being outside helps me pin those down & figure out things when I’m stumped.  Plus there’s always something beautiful to look at!

Just look at that sunset!  All the colors and the contrast between them and the black outlines.  It’s just – inspiring!

Wrapping it Up

As you can see there are plenty of ways to get inspired!  Sometimes you just really need to get out of your own head and look around.  Next week we are out for spring break, so that means a whole week of creating for me!  I’m not saying I won’t have any blog posts, but if I miss a day it’s because I’m working on some great things for future posts.  : )
