It’s time for the next challenge in the 2019 Maker Finish-Along! In July we worked on making gifts & lists for upcoming holidays & birthdays. As usual, we picked another UFO to focus on to help move them on out of our space. For August, we’re going to focus on making for ourselves. I think most of us makers tend to put any projects just for us last on the list. While making for others is wonderful, making for ourselves is just as important. So, this month we’re moving ourselves to the top of the list!

By the way, a UFO is an “UnFinished Object”, in case y’all didn’t know. It’s usually used by quilters or crocheters or knitters, but it applies to projects of all kinds. Since this is a Maker Finish-Along, it’s open to makers of all kinds. No matter what fuels your maker mojo, you can join in the fun!

Making for Ourselves

Okay y’all, last month was all about getting prepared for gift making. Making a list & checking it twice for the upcoming holidays & events throughout the year. As makers, I think we love nothing more than to make for others. I know it brings me great joy to make something for a loved one & see the smile on their face when they receive it.

That being said, sometimes we neglect to make for ourselves. I know that personally I sometimes feel selfish when I make for myself. There’s always something else that needs to be done that tends to make me put of doing things for myself.

Here’s the thing though – we need to take care of ourselves or we cannot continue to take care of others. I think the same thing is true when it comes to making. We need to make something just for us or just for the joy of making it every once & awhile. It really helps keep our maker spirit alive!

I have plenty of UFOs floating around my maker space that are just for me. They’ve been put aside for other making long enough! This month I’m doing some “me making” & I hope y’all will do the same for yourselves. : D

August’s Maker Challenge

This month’s challenge is to make something just for you! This can mean something different for everyone. Here are some examples of what I would consider “me making”:

  • Make something, anything, just for fun! Just because you want to see how it turns out!
  • Finish a UFO that will be only for you. Something to wear or art for you maker space.
  • Take some time to learn something new. I know we did a month about this already, but that can still be something just for you!

Whatever you decide to do, I hope you really enjoy it! I don’t want this challenge to be about perfection – none of them are by the way! I want it to be about you celebrating your maker mojo & creating just because it’s fun! No deadlines, no requests, no one changing your design. Just you, your project, & your creativity.

I’m personally looking forward to this challenge! I’ve wanted a more me-made wardrobe for awhile now & I have made some things here & there. This month I’m hoping to finish several items, just for me! So, go make stuff y’all! : D

Don’t forget to share your makes in the Teadoddles Makers Facebook group! Then you’ll have a chance to win the $20 Amazon gift card I give out each month. You can also use #tmfal2019 on Instagram if you prefer sharing there. Hope y’all have a great week filled with making!

P.S. Sorry this is late! I completely forgot about posting it yesterday! Oops!

  1. I’ve had fabric and a pattern for a new blouse for several months now. This is the perfect little nudge to get me going on making something for myself.
