This plastic basket makeover was so easy, I started to not even do a post on it. However, I had some snafus throughout the project that made it just a little more interesting. It also made it unfinished, but I think y’all can learn some things from my mistakes! : D
A Tisket, a Tasket!
The basket for this story came with some serger thread I thrifted. I bought all the thread, so the basket came with it! The best part was that I only paid $4 instead of the $8, which was still a great deal. : )
The basket was really screaming “80s” to me. That color & that heart ribbon was just not for me!
The first thing I did was start removing the ribbon. I guess I was pulling a little too hard because I cracked the basket….oops!
At first, I thought I would have to come up with something else, but I decided to see if I could fix it. I thought I’d try e6000 & see if I could glue it back together. My spray bottle made a great weight for holding it together until it dried! : D
It worked like a charm & I think I fixed the crack!
Peeling Paint
I wanted to try out the new spray paint I picked up at Home Depot. The metallic black color seemed like the perfect thing to give it a “metal” look.
It does say “use on wood, metal, and more”. I’m hoping the the “more” includes plastic!
By the way, tomato cages make great stands for spray painting baskets & wooden tags!
I brought the basket inside & realized the paint was just scraping off…
It may be because the paint hasn’t set up all the way – I’m a little impatient! I really do like the color…
I’m going to let it dry over night & give it another coat. If it’s still peeling, I’m going to use this paint…
It says “bonds to plastic” right on the front! : D
I did manage to get a tag made for it! It’s just a basic wooden tag I painted with chalkboard paint & edged with silver metallic lustre paint. Then I added a little scissor decal.
It will be ready whenever I finally finish my basket! : )
