August Favorites ~ The Little Things

It’s Friday y’all & I’m testing out a new series on the blog – monthly favorites! This will be about the things I’m loving right now, you know, the things that remind you life is wonderful. I think it’s good to take a look around us & find the things that are wonderful & share them with others. Just know that I have a cold, so this post today may be influenced by that! Alright, let’s take a look at some August favorites, shall we?

The Little Things

I think, today, I am most grateful for hot spiced tea! It’s the absolute best thing to drink when you have a sore throat. I usually start with a chai tea bag & add in cinnamon, anise, clover, honey, a dash of garam marsala & ginger, & a splash of lemon or orange juice. Let it simmer on the stove for just a bit & enjoy!

The mug in the pic is one of my favorites because my son gave it to me. It has caffeine molecules on the side! I also enjoy drinking ginger ale mixed with orange juice when I have a cold. The bubbles feel nice on a sore throat too!

Speaking of my son, I’m also loving that he calls me about 2 or 3 times a week. Usually he’s just talking about video games or the new computer he’s building, sometimes school stuff. I appreciate that he likes to talk to me & we are usually on the phone for over an hour. That’s something I know may end eventually when he has someone else to share things with, so I’ll hold it close for now. : )

Changing Seasons

Yes, I know it’s just the middle of August, but I have been feeling some changes in the air. This always excites me because we are headed towards my favorite time of the year – fall! I’ve noticed it this past week – little cool breezes & lower humidity in the evenings. Now, this is certainly not every day, but I can definitely feel it coming!

I’m trying to learn to enjoy the season I’m in & not rush things too much. I still look forward to cooler temperatures even it’s only a tease right now. : )

Furry Friends

For those that don’t know, I have two dogs – 1 deaf bulldog & 1 Jack Russel. We’ve had Lucky {the Jack Russel} for almost 9 years & he’s been the best dog! Hefy-Lou {the deaf bulldog} is a little more challenging at times, but she is so squishy & soft.

I love coming home knowing they are going to be excited to see me no matter what. They love a good head scrubble & tummy rub, which also puts a smile on my face! : D

Crafty Communities

Is it just me, or are all crafty people just the best? I’ve made so many wonderful online friends in the craft world & everyone seems to just be genuinely nice & happy. It’s so wonderful to talk to other people about what they love to do. If you’re talking in person, you can just see their face light up! That’s a wonderfully, awesome thing!

Have you seen the new show “Making It“? Well, you should because it makes me smile & laugh every time I watch it. Even thought it’s technically a competition, it really doesn’t feel like it. The people come from all sorts of crafty backgrounds & even help each other finish. This is the only show I make a point to watch when it comes on – I rarely watch TV any more. So, yeah, it’s definitely on my favorites list!

Podcasting

This is something new to me, but I’m really enjoying it more than I thought I would! It was really fueled by watching all the other crafty YouTube podcasts out there. It’s silly, but I really feel like I’m talking with a crafty friend when I watch them & when I record my own podcasts. My latest video is below if you want to check it out. It’s a tutorial/tips type video about organizing scraps & WIPs.

A big upside to doing the podcasts is that I feel more energized to finish things. Then I have more to share for the podcast! Tomorrow I’ll be doing one all about sewing & fabric, so I’m calling it Fabric Obsessed! Hopefully this cold is better in the morning, so I can record without sounding too stuffed up. Either way, I’m looking forward to it & hope to “see” y’all there!

Well, that turned out longer than I expected! The tea & writing this post really helped take that cold down a notch. Yay for positive thinking!

I’d love to hear about what your loving this month. Just let me know in the comments! Have a great weekend y’all!
