Mini quilts are so satisfying to me!  They whip up fairly quick & are a great way to practice quilting techniques.  You can also use them as a way to dress up your home.  It’s also a great way to share quilt-y love with your friends & family in a smaller package!  There are so many different ways to display mini quilts, I thought I’d share a few of my favorites with y’all today.

Current Display

I must confess this blog post started with an idea for something else {which you’ll see next Monday!}.  Then a lady in one of the quilt groups I follow on Facebook was looking for suggestions on how to display her recent mini quilt finish.  I looked over at my current mini quilt display {don’t laugh}….

Not very inspiring!  I thought, surely, I can come up with something better than that!  After looking around my house, I discovered many fun ways to display my collection.  All are much better than my sad pushpin arrangement was!

Clothespins & Binder Clips

Clothespins are great for all kinds of things besides hanging laundry {who wants to do that anyway!}.  My favorite for crafting are the plain wooden clothespins.  You can paint them, cover with washi tape, or leave them plain.  I added some 1/2″ magnetic tape to the back of these clothespins….

Then used them to display a mini quilt on the side of my filing cabinet.

Side Story ~>  This filing cabinet came with two long strips of magnetic tape on the side of it!  Since it only cost me $10, I call that a bonus thrift!

You can also add flat thumb tacks to the back of clothespins with some e6000 glue.

Then use them on a cork board to hold your mini creations!  There are also cork tiles available if you want to make a whole wall display.  {See my cork board makeover here.}

Binder clips are another way to help display mini quilts.  They can be used in similar ways, but my favorite is the “mini clothesline”.   You could use clothespins for this too.

This is a piece of yarn strung from one side of my window to the other.  It usually holds paper artwork, but it’s great for mini quilts too.  Just be careful because the sun can fade things!

Other Fun Display Options

How about using a book easel?  This is supposed to be for cookbooks, but I don’t think I’ve ever used it for that!

All this mini quilt hanging made me think of my cup hooks again!  I had some short dowel rod pieces left over from my craft supply hanger & thought they would be perfect to make a mini quilt rod hanger!

First I had to go over the dowels with some fine grit sandpaper, they’re a little rough.  Make sure to round off the ends so they don’t get snagged on the quilt pocket or tabs.  Here’s a before & after so you can see what I mean ~>

Next I spruced up the dowel rod with a little paint & added some ribbon tabs to my candy mini.  I also marked out a spot for two cup hooks on my wall, trying to keep it even & level – at least I used a ruler!  What do you think?

What’s great about this is you can use a smaller dowel, S-hooks, & binder clips if you don’t want to add tabs or a pocket.

You could also have different colored dowel rods to coordinated with your mini of the moment!

Those ribbon tabs look great even if they aren’t used for hanging the mini quilt…

By the way, you can find the patterns for the mini quilts shown over at Sew She Can under the monthly mini quilt tab.  Well, except the one with crochet around it!  ; )

If you’d like something other than plain Jane cup hooks, check out these fancy cup hooks.  I also like these chunky clothespins!  I also found some other inspiration for displaying quilts of all sizes while wondering around the interwebs ~>

  • This fun display from Heels in the Mud would be an awesome way to display mini quilts!
  • I have one of these giant clothespins & I never thought to use it this way!  Shanty-2-Chic has used them to hold a larger quilt up for display.
  • Loving this rope idea from Me and My Sister Designs!
  • This one is just a picture, but I think it’s a neat idea.  I could see using tree branches for this as well.

Do you know what else is great for mini quilts?  Mini charm packs!  Y’all I don’t know if I love these because they’re mini or what, but my collection is steadily growing right along with my mini quilt collection.  : )  Right now I’ve got my eye on this Berry Merry MINI Charm Pack by BasicGrey for Moda Fabrics over at the Fat Quarter Shop.  So gorgeous!

That reminds me, don’t forget to sign up for the Facebook group for the Merry Christmas Sew-Along with Teadoddles & Farmhouse Quilts.  We’ll be giving y’all some more details next week!  Grab a button in the side bar!

Happy Monday y’all!

Pin it for later!
