Getting Ready for Christmas

Is everyone a little plumper today from all the Thanksgiving eating?  I know I am, thanks to leftover pecan pie and late night online shopping.  Maybe I should have braved the Black Friday crowds to work off some of my pie butt!  Nah, I’ll get a workout spending the rest of the weekend getting ready for Christmas.  As you’ll see, I’ve decided to add a mini makeover to my to do list.  Just cause I like to think I have more time than I do.  Anyone else do things like that?

Mini Makeover

My whole house is covered in faux wood panel and 70’s wallpaper covered sheet rock.  Most of the rooms had a chair rail too.  We painted some of the walls when we moved in just to cover the “fabulous” wallpaper.  I got a wild hair one day and decided to remove most of the trim from all the walls.  This is what my living room walls look like currently.

This little wall is where I plan to hang the mantle shelf my dad made me.  I’ve decided to remove the sheet rock in this small area before I hang it up.  Guess what’s behind the sheet rock?

Tongue and groove pine!  It’s behind a majority of the walls in the house.

I plan on sanding down the white paint a little to let some wood show through.  This is as far as it’s progressed so far.  I’ve had a cold for the past three days and it’s really slowing me down.  Pulling off sheet rock certainly didn’t help!  I’ll post some progress pictures on Instagram as it comes along and do a blog post when I’m done.

Getting Ready for Christmas

In the midst of my mini makeover, I’m decorating the house for Christmas and working on Christmas gifts.  This is where my Christmas decorations are stored.

This lovely stack is at the end of the hallway.  I get to pull it all down and sort it out.  Don’t get me wrong, I love decorating for Christmas!  My son and husband take little interest in it which leaves it all to me.  When I was a child we made a whole event out of it.  We would all wear Christmas shirts and make a trip to the local tree farm.  My dad had to take a tape measure because my mom always wanted a tree that was too tall!  Once we got back home, the Christmas music was playing and the hot cocoa was flowing while we decorated the tree.  Ah, memories!

Anyway, I’m also working on new Christmas ornaments and making gifts.  This is a glimpse at my work table at the moment.

Trust me, you don’t want to see the rest of the chaos!  I’m thinking about making a blanket out of this fox fleece and plaid flannel.  I think it needs some pom-pom trim, what do y’all think?

At least I have one of the most important areas ready.  A hot cocoa and cookie station!

This was inspired by a blogger I met on Instagram, Embellishments by SLR.  Here’s a link to my cookie jar tutorial.

Well, I’ve got to get back to the Black Friday pajama party on my Facebook page.  Don’t miss out on all the great deals!  You can also check my Black Friday tab in the menu for deals from my affiliates.  Remember to save some pennies for Small Business Saturday too!  There are lots of great vendors on Etsy and you can go through Ebates first for some cash back.  There’s a link on my Black Friday page that will give you a $10 bonus for signing up.

Y’all have a great weekend and I’ll be back Monday with the final round of Easy Christmas Gifts.  Bye for now!
