Today I’m partnering with Cents of Style once again for a Fashion Friday Story.  They gave me an awesome shirt and I’m going to tell you why I feel thankful, grateful, and blessed.  I love doing these stories with Cents of Style!  Did you know they also have a blog?  You can find stories from other women, even some from the Cents of Style women themselves.  There’s also styling tips and fun articles about clothing.  Now it’s time for my story!

Thankful

The past 3 years of my life have been full of changes and they all started with a lump in my neck.  This is going to sound crazy, but I’m thankful for that lump!  I know, no one wants to have cancer and neither did I!  I’m thankful for it because it made me slow down.  My life at the time was chaotic, hectic, stressful, etc.  The job I was working at was going no where and I had felt a pull to other things for a while.  Having thyroid cancer made me stop and really look at my life.  I wasn’t living a life that made me look forward to each day.  If my 5 year old self saw what I was doing, she would give me a swift kick in the shin!  I’ve always love creating things.  At that time, I was only creating an income.  Yes, everyone needs an income to survive, but why not accomplish that by doing something you love?  That’s why I’m thankful for thyroid cancer.  It was my 5 year old self kicking me in the shin!

Grateful

I am so grateful for my husband and my son.  Really, I’m grateful for all my family that supported me and helped me through what seemed like a nightmare at the time.  But my husband and my son were there Every. Single. Day.  Having cancer, losing your thyroid, and losing your job of 13 years is distressing.  The emotional turmoil that comes with all of that affected not only me, but my family.  My husband was with me every step of the way.  He took me to both my surgeries, made sure I had what I needed, and picked up the responsibilities I couldn’t handle at the time.  I couldn’t have asked for a better partner.

Being in such an unsettled state made me mad sometimes.  Sometimes I would just cry for no reason.  My son got yelled at for no reason sometimes.  He’s a teenager and he’s already dealing with all that comes with being a teenager.  Did he act out because of this?  No.  If I was upset he would walk away until I had calmed down.  If I was crying he would hug me and tell me it was going to be alright.  How did I get so lucky?  So to my husband and my son, I am so grateful for your love and support!  I couldn’t have made it through without y’all!  {My son took the next two pictures of me, by the way!}

Blessed

If anything, the past 3 years has shown me how truly blessed I am.  Besides the fact that I have an awesome family, I also have a renewed sense of purpose in life.  I wake up everyday thinking of the possibilities instead of dreading the day.  I’ve renewed my passion for making and have found a way to share it with the world through blogging.  Don’t get me wrong, I still have stressful and emotional days.  It’s just easier to make it through them when you remember to count your blessings!  Whenever I’m feeling like things are just not going my way, I remember all that I have been through and the fact that I’m still standing.  I am so blessed to be able to share my passion, be a survivor, and have a life lived!

Life Lived

It’s my new motto, which is why you see it on my blog so frequently.  I never want to forget that a life lived is a life not wasted.  We all have one life, why not make the most of it?  I don’t want to come to the end of my life and realize I never reached for my dreams.  There will always be obstacles in your way, but keeping a positive attitude will help you over come them!  Always remember to be thankful and grateful even in moments that are trying and it will be easier to make it through.  Remember you are blessed because you have a life to live.  Make it count!
