Organizing the Yarn Stash

My crochet mojo has been hiding out & I think I found out where today! I spent a good deal of time organizing my fabric stash, but I’ve been neglecting my yarn stash. That’s where I found my crochet-jo! I spent part of the day cleaning out yarn bins & WIP bags & now I’m excited to get back crocheting. Maybe I’ll get to learning how to knit too! : )

Yarn Storage

Most of my yarn is in this neat bin shelf I found at a thrift store for $7. It’s from IKEA! The two bins on top I picked up at Sam’s Club for $10 for both. I had already started cleaning the bins out before I took this picture. : )

I originally bought these bins for larger crochet projects because they have the net pockets on the side. They have become storage bins!

Some of my smaller skeins & leftovers are in bins that hang under my shelves. These were just a $1 each at the thrift store.

It was fun to look through the bins & remember some yarns I had forgotten! I did put the two in the lower right in the giveaway pile. That’s all I could part with! I divided everything by weight/type, so I can look in one area for when I need a certain kind. This is not everything that’s in that shelf, just what I took pictures of.

Of course I can’t clean out the yarn stash without dealing with the WIPs too! This basket has mostly crochet WIPs in it, but there were a few sewing projects in there as well. Those were moved to a different area.

These are all my other WIPs piled on my dining room table. Mount WIP! : D

Let’s see, from left to right & clockwise, there’s

Moorland afghan I’m still working on
an afghan CAL from two winters ago
a Christmas afghan in the middle of being repaired

Next we have

squares from an unfinished Moogly CAL
squares from an unfinished Geek-a-Long CAL
a finished CAL that needs to be stitched together – don’t remember where it’s from!
a half finished Harry Potter square

These odds & ends include…

Center of Sophie’s Universe CAL {I will make the whole thing one day!}
unfinished hat, crocheted ropes, bottom of a purse from a CAL
a gnome that needs to be connected, a pug in progress, & two hats in progress
a frogged start to the Downtown Abby CAL {which I did finish!} & socks in progress
two pumpkins in progress, pig in progress, flower rug in progress, & scarf in progress
finished purse body, needs handles & lining

I worked on this while traveling to Atlanta Sunday. These are two unicorn scarves in progress. That’s Sprightly yarn, which is a Craftsy brand. It’s super squishy!

So many WIPs! I’m deciding what to keep pursuing & what will be frogged. Then I can make a list, which will hopefully help me keep up with it better!

Crochet Tools

Cleaning out all those crochet bags left me with more yarn to organize. The bottom of this bag is out of control!

Here’s what I would like to have in a crochet bag. A crochet hook {certainly}, measuring tape, scissors, darning needles, a pencil, & notepad {not pictured}. It’s also useful to have the pattern if it’s not on your phone! I really need a pouch that holds all of this in one place. Future project??

All of the crochet hooks & knitting needles I’m not using at the moment are in a broken coffee mug & an old Pringles can. It works, but I think I can come up with something better than this!

So, I’m adding to my WIP list a crochet supply & needle holder!

I’m going to use this neat idea from Look at What I Made to help keep up with my yarn stash. Now I need to figure out where to put all my WIP bags!

I did clear up a bin to use for my batting roll…

I also need to give the rest of my room a little spring cleaning! : D

By the way, the 100 Day Project kicks off on Instagram tomorrow. I’m very excited to start another project & I have my supplies ready to go – a window screen & a box of embroidery floss!
