Recycled Drawer Paint Storage ~ Pinterest Challenge

I’ve had this pin in the back of my mind for a minute! I knew when I started using the drawers from my old dresser, this would be one of the projects. This paint storage solution was the perfect thing for this month’s Pinterest Challenge!

So this month, I chose to create/make this DIY Craft Paint Storage I pinned from Sadie Seasongoods.

Drawer to a Shelf

This will be the 3rd project I’ve made with a drawer from my old dresser. I used one for a dog bed & the second for some much needed vertical storage. There’s one more drawer left, so that means one more project waiting to be made!

The drawer I’m using is much larger than the one in the original post. This is good, since I have lots of paint!

I bought two 1/4″ x 4″ x 24″ poplar boards to make the shelves.

My dad helped me cut the boards down to fit the drawer. One board was cut in half & the second was cut into 4 pieces. This gave me one full width shelf & 3 half width shelves.

Dad had some scrap wood that we used for ledges for the shelves. He cut a 10 degree miter to help the shelves tilt back slightly. The original post called for a 15 degree miter.

Dad also cut a piece for each side to act as a spacer between each ledge & a piece to wedge between the two sides. This helped hold the pieces in place while the wood glue dried.

Wood glue was better for this drawer because the sides are too thin for nails. Once the glue was dried, we put it to the test!

Well, it functions, so now it’s time to make it pretty!

Painting the Paint Shelf

I really liked the kitschy paper in the back of the original shelf. I found this thicker tissue paper in my stash & knew it was perfect! This time I used spray adhesive instead of Modge Podge.

I painted the ledges & one side of the shelves with Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint in Vintage {one of my faves!}.

The front panel, front & back, got a coat of a new color I bought recently, Victorian.

I also gilded the edges with some metallic lustre in gold rush. I decided to keep the handles & used Rustoleum spray paint in oil rubbed bronze again.

The back of the back panel also got a coat of Victorian. Everything else was left as raw wood & I coated everything with Americana Decor Clear Wax.

I plan on hanging this on the wall, but I needed to see if it would hold all my paint.

It holds everything but my spray paints! I need to put some dots on the lids so I can tell what color is what more easily.
