Today’s DIY is so easy I almost didn’t post it!  Since it’s the new year & people are organizing everything {including me}, I thought someone might find this useful.  I recently separated my fabric scraps into bins & baskets according to size.  This was great for cleaning off my fabric shelf, but I needed some labels to remember what I put where!  These basket labels were a quick fix to help start the new year off right!

Wooden Labels

I wanted my labels to be durable & easy to see.  My bins are divided by scrap size – 2″+, 3″+, 4″+, etc.  The plus means it’s at least 3″ but under 4″ & so forth.  Having them divided is great, but having them labeled makes it awesome!  : D

I found these wooden labels in my little red tool box of bits & bobs…

Perfect!  They are durable & look like tiny signs!  Yay!

Since this is unfinished wood, I broke out the chalk paint in a teal blue.  It covered in one coat!

I didn’t paint the back, but I did go around the edges with my big Sharpie paint marker.

I used the smaller paint marker to add the details…

These were a little too flat looking to me, so I added a few more things!  I put on a layer of crackle medium to help add some texture.  Then I rubbed the sides & very lightly over the front with Metallic Lustre in Gold Rush.  Finally I sealed it all with some satin varnish.

Now it’s time to hang them on the bins & baskets!

All Labeled Up

I just used some twine to tie the labels to each basket & bin.  Now I know where everything is!

I also save triangle cuts because I want to make a triangle scrap quilt one day.  There’s also a basket for fabric that will make great binding or bag straps.

Iron-on’s are pieces with fusible backing on them already.  The leftovers bin is basically where I put odd things like a pocket flap that didn’t get used.  : )

My next task is working on better labels for my QAL bins.  These are hard to see & don’t always stay stuck!

I also spot two small bins that need labels too…. guess I need to get busy!  Y’all have a wonderful Wednesday & come back Friday for my first Teadoddles Talks of the new year.  : )

Pin it for later!
