This past Monday was a special day for my mother & me. It was her 60th birthday & my 5 year cancer free anniversary – yay! I thought I’d share how we celebrated this wonderful day. I’ll also continue the Friday fun by sharing things happening this weekend, weekend sales, & fun things to click. Just in case you’re looking for something to do this weekend!  ; )

Celebrations

Five years ago, I had thyroid cancer. My last surgery happened to fall on my mother’s birthday. Now, we celebrate the day together!

Since this year was extra special – 60th & 5th – we had a big gathering to celebrate. There was lots of good food, family, & friends. My mother made me a cake as well…

She’s a great baker! I did eat a piece of the cake because it had cream cheese icing, but I was more interested in the pound cake. Yum! There are a couple recipes on the blog involving this pound cake:

Maybe one day I’ll share the original!

My mother also had a special ribbon made with the thyroid cancer survivor colors…

She is the best mother ever! I’m very grateful she wants to share her special day with me! I didn’t realize until I started this post that I forgot to take a new picture of mom & me. So, I’m sharing this one from 2 years ago…

Still a great picture! Happy birthday, again, to my mother. Thank you for sharing your day with me!

Friday Fun

Friday has always been my favorite day of the week, even when I worked full time. Everyone seemed more relaxed & there was always a buzz of excitement about the upcoming weekend. If your looking for something fun to do for the weekend, this is the place to look!

Local Activities

When I was younger, we went on all kinds of adventures on the weekends. My parents always found the neatest places to visit! During the summer, I know lots of parents are looking for ways to keep the kiddos occupied. These links are for local events, but I’m sure there are things happening in your neighborhood as well.

  • Father’s Day Gifts at Artsy Fartsy ~> Make a gift for Dad! This is supposed to be from 1 to 4 this Sunday, so contact them or stop by for more details.
  • Peanut Express Train Ride {Cordele, GA}~> Visit a telephone museum & eat some peanut treats! That may sound boring to some, but we used to do things like this on the weekends when I was young. It made for some great memories!
  • World Oceans Day at Chehaw {Albany, GA}~> Gulf Specimen Marine Laboratory is bringing its Sea Mobile Touch Tank! Sounds like lots of fun!
  • Georgia Department of Natural Resources ~> I couldn’t find anything happening at our local state park, but there are many events happening all around Georgia. This is a great place to look for a weekend adventure!
