Well y’all, this is a sad, sad garden update! I always start out with good intentions, then it gets so hot it sucks the life out of you. I don’t like being hot y’all, it makes my brain feel like it’s smelting! Anyway, I’ve started some clean up of my overgrown flower beds & I’m planning on planting some mums for fall, so there’s that. ; )

Garden Clean Up

I have managed to clean out my side garden. There were weeds everywhere & the tomato plants had fallen off the pallet. Most of the pots are empty because I kept forgetting to water them. Bleh! I also noticed my oregano has mostly moved to the front of the bed.

There is still some hope in the pots! The pansy I planted has sprouted anew & even has some flowers. One of my peppers has also re-sprouted.

My aloe vera plant is looking pretty good nestled among the oregano. There are baby aloe veras on each side of it, but it’s hard to see in the photo.

Although I haven’t cleaned out my rose bush bed, I did want to show y’all a picture of the lemon grass I planted in the spring. It’s ginormous!

One of the blades is taller than me & I’m 5′-8″ tall! It was only about 12″ tall when I planted it. There’s something in this corner flower bed that plants just love. The plant on the bottom is the eggplant I planted at the same time & it’s also huge. I’ve only picked one eggplant off of it though, which is kinda a bummer!

I did spy a couple blooms on my rose of Sharon bush…

I also spied a rogue pine tree growing at the base!

I will have to pull that up or transplant it because that’s right at the corner of my house. Not a good place for a pine tree!

Fungus Amungus

I have noticed quite a few different varieties of mushrooms growing around our property. When I first saw these, I thought it was some kind of weird acorn!

They seem to grow in little groups & if you push the center it will puff out spores. I just noticed there’s a different mushroom in the bottom right of this picture.

This mushroom reminds me of a portabella mushroom…

This one looks like some kind of weird sponge. That little pile of grey pellets above it is worm poop! : D

That’s the best thing to see in a garden, in case you didn’t know! Yeah, I know, I sound like a big ol’ nerd, but that’s because I am a big ol’ nerd! {insert snort laugh here!}

I started not to include this picture, but if you look real close you can see a spider hanging from the top of the bush. There were about 3 other spiders on this bush around the big one. I wondered if they were his/her children because it’s odd to see so many that close together.

My last picture is of a dragonfly eating something almost as big as he is! I mean this is a pretty big dragonfly, but he was struggling a little bit with his cargo.

That’s all I have for y’all today. Hopefully I’ll have my flower beds cleaned up & full of fall color by next month’s post!
