I walked in my craft room today & realized it needed a good spring cleaning if I was going to get anything done! I’m still in the middle of sorting, but I thought I’d share my process for cleaning up the clutter. You’ll also get a little tour of my craft space – yay! Maybe you’ll even get some ideas to help give your craft room a spring cleaning, so you can make more stuff!

Chaos in the Craft Room

This was the state of my craft room when I walked in today…

It’s getting a little hard to walk in there! Plus, most of my “work” surfaces are covered with stuff. Yep, that’s a project from last week still on the table!

My first order of business was to start putting things back in their proper places!

I had already started me a “big list of stuff” while I was cleaning up around the house. I’m just jotting down anything that comes to mind or that I see needs to be done as I clean up.

I’ll take this list & break it into categories after I’m done. This keeps it all in one place for now.

What’s Working

There are some areas in my craft room that are working for me. My fabulous fabric shelf would be one of those things! The only issue at the moment is that I have no room to add the new apparel fabrics I bought last month. That just means I need to get busy sewing!

My tool peg board is also working for me. I do think I need to rearrange some things in the baskets on the bottom, but that’s about it. I did realize it’s time to make some paper since the scrap paper box is full! Added to the list!

This wrack & shelf are still working for me too. I just need to go through the stuff on the rack to see what needs to be done & tide up the shelves a bit.

I’ve been tweaking my sewing peg board as I need while sewing. It’s working well at the moment! Those two baskets on the desk are things that need to be finished. Ug!

This shelf of quilts in progress is quite tidy. I do need to sort out that basket on top & make a list of the said quilts in progress.  ; )

So, all of those areas just need a little tidying & maybe some dusting. Otherwise, they are working quite nicely!

What’s Not Working

While I was tidying things up, I came across some areas that need a major overhaul. Like this drawer in my filing cabinet…

That’s definitely not working! This is where I keep my sketch pads & creative journals & such. I’ll get this sorted when I finish my “big list of stuff”.  : )

Okay, I know I made a paint shelf for my paint, but I haven’t hung it up yet. Once I get that hung up, then I can sort out my scrapbook drawers. Added to the list!

This box worked fine for all my embroidery floss until I started using it more. I’m not sure what to do about this yet, but it’s going on the list!

My stamp organizer works pretty well, but it doesn’t hold all my stamps. Some are in the bin on top & the new ones are in the stack beside it. I may need to do some rearranging.

These are all areas that clearly need more time than a quick tidy. Everything’s on the list & I will find a solution as soon as possible!

Some Progress

I did make some progress in messy areas today. My gift wrap station was not making me feel like wrapping many gifts…

After a clean up & some reorganizing, it looks much better! {Yes, I know the picture is off center. It drives me crazy too, but I will not move it until I get to paint the walls!} : D

When I put up my crayons and markers, I decided this cabinet drawer needed a little clean up.

Much better! I would like a better way to store my markers, but it’s functional for now.

I also have a small pile ready for donating!

I still have some cleaning to do, so I’d better get back to it.  Y’all have a marvelous Monday!
