Does your trunk have stuff hanging out in it that rolls around every time you turn a corner? Well mine does! Between groceries, thrifting adventures, and gardening season it gets quite a bit of abuse. When I was unloading my latest trip to the store I realized I had purchased the perfect solution to my troubles. Maybe this trunk organizer will be a solution y’all can use as well!

The Trunk

The first thing I needed to do was clean out my trunk. Let’s see, there was a box of things for donation, a bag of bird seed, random vehicle parts, a bag of bags {ha!}, & some other bits & bobs.

Once I decided what was staying & what was going, I grabbed the supplies to help wrangle things into order. These burlap bags were only 99 cents at our local Ollie’s. It’s one of those closeout stores & you never know what you might find in it.

It’s supposed to be for a “portable garden”. When I  bought them, I didn’t know exactly what I would use them for, just that they were neat & only 99 cents! They are wax lined with a grommet hole in the bottom, which makes them fairly durable.

I did a test fit to see how many I needed. Four fit in just right!

That leaves me with one more to test as a planter!

Labels

I decided I wanted to label each bin, just to help keep things straight. For this I’m using Rustoleum Ultra Cover in Spa Blue & some chipboard letters.

I just laid the letters out I wanted to use & spray painted over them, doing a little ombre effect. In my excitement, I forgot to lay the bag on something other than my grass! Oops!

Here’s the finished look…

Here are all the bags labeled – one for stuff that stays in the car, one for donations, & two for shopping. The last two will be perfect for trips to the produce stand &/or thrifting. : )

My letters are still usable too!

Adding Velcro

These bags don’t exactly stand up well when they’re empty. My solution is to put Velcro between each back so they support each other. This Velcro is designed especially for fabric & it matches my bags!

I always stick both sides of the Velcro together before cutting them. It just makes the cutting go faster & keeps them the same length.

I cut 6 strips between 1″ & 2″ for this. Leaving the Velcro together, I stuck two on each side of the bag close to the top. Pull of the paper & stick it to the other bag. Easy peasy!

Now my trunk is all organized & cleaner! The Velcro will allow for easy removal when I want to use one of the shopping bags. Or if I want to haul something larger!

I think this could easily be used for kids sports or whatever y’all haul around in your trunk. ; )

My next task is to make a cover for the floor that will make clean up easier. Plants & thrifty finds tend to leave behind lots of dirt! : D

Pin it for later!
