Blog News

I’d like to welcome all new subscribers – I’m glad to have you here! In case you didn’t know, there’s a page with FREE adult coloring printables available only to subscribers. You should have received a password with your welcome email for this month. I have recently started sending out a new password every three months instead of every month, which means the current password is good through the end of October.

My monthly roundup posts usually go out on the last Monday of the month. Since September had 5 Saturdays & October has 5 Mondays, I needed to shift that a little bit to make my podcast schedule work. Just in case anybody was curious! : D

I’ve added a tab to the menu for “Podcast Show Notes”. You will have to hover over the tab to see the list of podcasts because I can’t figure out how to get it to list on the page. This will have a summary of the podcasts with links to things I mention in the video.

Standard post time for the blog is 7:00 p.m. EST.  The blog hops I participate in have different post times & you can find them in the Monthly Posts list below.

Life Events

This month has had lots of odd things happening it seems. I had a foot issue that caused me to have a biopsy & that turned out to be an allergic reaction with possible eczema. Still don’t know what I’m allergic to!

Then my son has had the worst time with his financial aide at his school. They have to outsource to an off-site company to file certain things because they became a non-profit school. People at that company aren’t filing paper work like they are supposed to & it’s caused my son and other students to not be able to register this quarter. I’m hoping they have it straightened out this week.

My son also had one of his packages stolen from his apartment. He ordered computer parts for the computer he’s building & the package was missing when he got home from work. Never had a problem until now when the package was full of expensive parts, which is a little fishy. Amazon did send him a replacement package at no charge, which is awesome!

When I was walking the dog one day, I spotted all these caterpillars nesting on my large azalea bush. They are aptly named “azalea caterpillars” because they feed almost exclusively on azaleas. Well I decided to wait until the evening when it was cooler to deal with them & they had stripped down a quarter of my bush {picture to left}!

I shook them off & smashed them with a brick. I had to do that several days in a row to make sure I got them all. Bleh!

Since I didn’t have a gardening post this month, I thought I’d share these two pictures as well. The little rain frog was resting under the shade of my rose bush leaves.

I spotted the dragonfly on top of the trash bin while walking the dog. He was not alive, but I thought it was odd that he was just laying there. Such a large one too!

In case you missed it ~>

Crafty News

I’m working on plans for some project bags to sell & I was hoping to have some ready by the end of the month. It’s looking like it will be mid-October before I have that ready. I did order a custom logo stamp from Saya Bell Stamps to use for all my labeling!

I have more to show y’all about the bags in the “Sewing News” section, but I wanted to share these shirts I got from Cents of Style. Aren’t they awesome?!?

I got them during one of their 2 for $22 sales, which was a great deal. They have tons of graphic tees, tanks, & sweatshirts to choose from & their regular price varies. Keep an eye on my Facebook page for the next sale!

Sewing News

The Merry Christmas Sew-Along is in full swing! I released my second ornament on September 10th & Monique’s 2nd ornament comes out on October 8th. Don’t forget to post your ornaments in the Facebook group so you can be entered to win a prize! Be sure to check out all the details on the Merry Christmas SAL page.

Finishes

  • First “mega maker bag” with a drawstring top. Thrifted upholstery velvet with leftover coating on the outside & Tim Holtz’s Correspondence line on the inside. I’m thinking I need to add something to stiffen up the sides a bit so it’s not so floppy.

  • This would be an example of a zippered “mega maker bag”. I made this about 2 years ago.

WIPS/Upcoming

I’m currently in bag making mode! I did get to test out some fabric dyeing, but I need more practice…

This didn’t turn out exactly like I’d hoped, but I will still be able to use it in a bag. I also ordered tons of zippers from Zip It Zippers to use in the bags.

Other than bag making, I’ll be working on Christmas gifts & a few new clothing items. I’m going to try to have some quilt tops done as well, but we’ll see how that goes!

New Purchases

I just want to say that all this fabric was purchased before I put myself on a fabric diet! It may also be the reason for the fabric diet. ; )

These items came from Fabric Mart & Girl Charlee sales. I’ll link to them if they are still available, just know the price may differ because the sales are over.

  1. cotton floral voile {$7.99 yd} & black with pink diamonds polyester {$3.15 yd}, Fabric Mart
  2. half yard hacci knits {99 cents each}, Girl Charlee
  3. wood boucle suiting {7.99 yd} & cotton novelty weave {$6 yd}, Fabric Mart {sold out}
  4. black & white knit {$5.20 yd} & panel knit {$6 yd}, Fabric Mart {sold out}
  5. brown plaid cotton/linen shirting {$8.05 yd}, pink plaid cotton/linen shirting {$7.99 yd}, & maroon flannel/twill shirting {$7.99 yd-sold out}, Fabric Mart
  6. five pound bag of 1/4 yd+ knit scraps {$9.75 sale}, Girl Charlee
  7. Indian blanket print hacci knit {$3.25 yd}, Girl Charlee

You can find out more about all the above fabrics in my next Fabric Obsessed podcast that goes out on October 20th. All the fabrics below were in the Fabric Obsessed ~ Episode #2 podcast.

  1. abstract cityscape print jersey knit {$6 yd, sold out}
  2. pink floral jersey knit {$3.99 yd, sold out}, monkey print jersey knit $4 yd, sold out}, navy striped cotton/poly burnout jersey knit {$4 yd}, & bamboo/wool jersey knit {$8 yd, sold out}
  3. heathered charcoal hacci sweater knit {$5.20 yd, sold out}

Now can you see why I put myself on a fabric diet?? I almost forgot to mention that I joined a new cross stitch club! It’s called the Geeky Stitching Club & it comes with cross stitch patterns & supplies every month. I forgot to take a picture, but you can see it in the last Fabric Obsessed podcast.

Wish List

I’m supposed to be on a fabric/yarn diet, but this is my birthday month, so I may slip a little! I’m loving this Merriment Eclectic Elements collection from Tim Holtz ~>

But I am absolutely drooling over this Autumn Vibes collection from Maureen Cracknell! It’s just fabulous!

Crochet News

I’ve put myself on a yarn diet too because that stash is overloaded as well! Just like before, this was purchased before that went into effect. : )

In case you missed it ~>

Finishes

  • So, I released a new pattern on the blog in September! The links to the blog posts & tutorial videos are above & here’s a look at the finished product.

  • I also finished this Foldover Cowl from Hooked for Life using Red Heart with Love in Parade. Well, I still need to add some buttons & weave in ends, but the crochet part is done.

This is part of the Holiday Stashdown from the Underground Crafter.

WIPS

Here are two more projects in progress from the Holiday Stashdown.

There’s also a Halloween CAL going on over at Underground Crafter. Maybe I’ll get to some of those soon!

DIY News

Most of my DIYs occur when I need to do something for the blog, so I usually just share what’s coming up on the blog here. First up is this wooden planter I got for $5 at during my August thrifty haul.

I’ve got plans with a sander & some of my favorite Extreme Sheen paint! Next is this projector screen left behind in my son’s room. I don’t want to say what my plans are just yet, but if it works out, it will be awesome!

I did pick up a few new DIY items this past week ~>

  1. DecoArt Pouring Medium – I need to try this paint pouring trend!
  2. wooden letters – to try paint pouring on
  3. canvas dropcloth – future project
  4. various eyehooks {spindle ornaments}, lobster claws, & jump rings {for project markers}
  5. new spray paints & more colors of Extreme Sheen

You can find out more about all of these items in my latest DIY & Thrifty Fun Podcast.

In case you missed it ~>

Whew! These things never get shorter even with the podcasts! Be sure to watch this Saturday for my monthly roundup podcast, where you can hear me talk more about all this madness! : D
